Sanyo Chemical Industries, Ltd. is pleased to announce the development of NEOPROVER HBF-101, an innovative cold flow improver designed to enhance the low-temperature flowability of biodiesel fuels.

Biodiesel fuel is a renewable, carbon-neutral alternative to traditional diesel, produced from plant-based oils and used cooking oils. However, compared to fossil diesel, its tends to lose flowability on low-temperature conditions, leading to operational issues in cold climates without proper modification.

The newly developed NEOPROVER HBF-101 significantly enhances the low-temperature performance of biodiesel fuels, helping to prevent engine malfunctions in cold climates. This innovation supports the expanded adoption of biodiesel across diverse regions, contributing to reduced CO₂ emissions and fostering sustainable energy adoption.

Sanyo Chemical Industries, Ltd. announces that it has obtained the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) Supply Chain Certification (Mass Balance model) for its subsidiary, Sanyo Kasei (Thailand) Limited (SKT) ‘s head office and its Rayong Factory on 22 September 2024, as a part of its commitment to sustainable raw material procurement.

 

Palm oil, derived from the fruit of oil palm tree, is the most widely produced and utilized vegetable oil globally. However, large-scale oil palm plantation development has led to significant environmental destruction and human rights violations due to poor working conditions in some regions. The RSPO certification is the international certification system aims to address these issues and to promote sustainable palm oil production and utilization that respects biodiversity and conserves forests.

 

Sanyo Chemical Group joined the RSPO in 2013, and obtained RSPO certification for Sanyo Chemical’s Head Office, Tokyo Branch Office, and domestic factories (located in Nagoya, Kashima, and Kyoto, Japan) in 2023. With the certification for SKT, Sanyo Chemical Group marks another step towards sustainable practices and start procuring and using raw materials derived from RSPO-certified palm oil for some surfactants for cosmetics produced by SKT, which are in high demand for use of RSPO-certified palm oil. Sanyo Chemical Group is committed to further expanding the use of RSPO-certified palm oil and promoting the establishment of a system for sustainable procurement and supply of raw materials.

 

We will continue to promote sustainable raw material procurement initiatives and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.

Sanyo Chemical Industries, Ltd. and Professor Naoki Morimoto of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Kyoto University Hospital, are pleased to announce positive results from a corporate clinical trial initiated in July 2021 for Silk-Elastin® Sponge, a novel healing material jointly developed for the treatment of chronic wounds*1. This collaborative R&D has led to the successful development of Silk-Elastin® Sponge, with clinical trials has been conducted since July 2021 to evaluate its efficacy and safety.
Based on the trial results, Sanyo Chemical has initiated the application for manufacturing and marketing approval of Silk-Elastin® Sponge for chronic wound healing, aiming for practical application within the next fiscal year.

Sanyo Chemical Industries, Ltd. and Hiroshima University are pleased to announce that an investigator-initiated clinical trial was conducted targeting patients with meniscus injuries (meniscus suture) using new treatment method using Silk-Elastin at Hiroshima University Hospital, and its safety was confirmed. Silk-Elastin is a functional protein with high potential as a scaffold for promoting repair and regeneration of living tissue.

 

Based on these results, Sanyo Chemical, together with Hiroshima University and others, will conduct a corporate clinical trial to confirm its efficacy and promote research and development toward commercialization.

Sanyo Chemical Industries, Ltd. is pleased to announce the development of a durable hydrophilic agent for nonwoven fabrics, named “HYDROTHROUGH PS-887,” which is designed to impart durable hydrophilicity to polyolefin nonwoven fabrics. Nonwoven fabrics treated with “HYDROTHROUGH PS-887” maintain high hydrophilicity even after repeated water permeation. When the treated nonwoven fabrics used in sanitary products such as disposable diapers and sanitary napkins, they enable for comfortable use without frequent replacement, improving usability and satisfaction. It is economical and helps reduce environmental impact by reducing the waste.
In addition, “HYDROTHROUGH PS-887” is of plant-based and does not use animal-derived raw materials, making it suitable for users who prefer alternatives to animal-based ingredients for religious reasons.

Sanyo Chemical Industries, Ltd. announces that the Rayong Plant (Rayong Province, Thailand) of its affiliated company, Sanyo Kasei (Thailand) Limited, has obtained halal certification for three products used as raw materials for personal care products: BEAULIGHT LCA-25N, BEAULIGHT LCA-25F, and LEBON CIB, effective from November 22nd, 2023, until November 21st, 2024, subject to renewal annually.

 

SKT manufactures and sells chemicals for textiles, surfactants, paper chemicals, resins for paints and inks, and resin additives. In Asia and the Middle East, where the percentage of Muslim population is high, personal care products that come in contact with human skin are required to obtain halal certification. This time, we have newly obtained halal certification for the following three products for personal care. These are surfactants used in hair care and body care applications, and are hypoallergenic and provide high foaming performance. By obtaining halal certification, companies that manufacture and sell personal care products to the Muslims can use our products with confidence. We will continue to expand our lineup of high-quality, safe halal-certified products to respond to growing demand in Asia and the Middle East.

Sanyo Chemical Industries, Ltd. pleased to announce that it has developed a rice branderived SPF* booster KOMEFINE® which can be blended into sunscreen formulations to improve ultraviolet (UV) protection and provide a pleasant feeling of use. Rice bran is a major agricultural by-product of rice polishing, and it is used for rice oil extraction, fertilizer, and feed, but part of it has been disposed of as industrial waste. KOMEFINE® is an environmentally friendly ingredient that upcycles such rice bran. KOMEFINE® is suitable as an ingredient for sunscreens which are sustainable, environmentally friendly, and more natural with plant-based ingredients.
